St. Elmo Brady received a B.S. in Chemistry from Howard University (1908). He became the first African-American to receive a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Illinois (1916). He later served as Professor of Chemistry at Howard University until 1927. Afterwards, he worked at Fisk University heading their science division.
